A person applying for citizenship from 10 February 2025 who has previously arrived without the necessary entry permission or electronic travel authorisation, having entered via dangerous routes, will normally have their citizenship application refused.
The Home Office's citizenship guidance specifies that the point referring to the “good character requirement" was updated on Monday to clarify that citizenship applications involving unlawful entry will normally be refused, regardless of when the unlawful entry occurred.
The guidance states: “Any person applying for citizenship from 10 February 2025 who has previously entered the UK illegally will normally be refused, regardless of how much time has passed since the unlawful entry.".
Since this directive has also met with opposition, it is expected to be debated in Parliament, whether it will be approved or not.
