Applicants for a US visa must show that they qualify under the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act. The presumption in law is that every visitor visa applicant is a potential immigrant.
Visitor visa applicants must therefore overcome this presumption by demonstrating that:
- The purpose of their trip is to enter the USA for business, pleasure or medical treatment
- They plan to stay for a specific, limited period
- They have a residence outside the USA, as well as other binding ties that will ensure their return abroad at the end of the visit
What the applicant needs:
- A completed DS-160 non-immigrant visa application form (a separate form for each visitor)
- A completed DS-160 form for all male non-immigrant visa applicants aged 16 to 45.
- Every applicant, including children of any age, must have an individual passport valid for travel to the United States, with an expiry date at least six months beyond the intended period of stay.
- Two 2×2 photographs of each applicant, showing the full face, to be used with the application form.
