Documents required for a UK visa

The United Kingdom, or England as we often call it for short, has become one of the most popular and attractive destinations. But whenever we prepare for a trip and think about the visa application, we picture a long process and a long list of documents, so much so that the process seems both costly and time-consuming.

In fact, although the common view is that getting a UK visa is difficult, complicated and takes a long time, in this article we want to share a few facts and clear up some of the questions that most often arrive in our inbox.

The UK visa application is done entirely online, through the UK government’s official platform. The only window for presenting your personal situation is the application form itself and your supporting documents. The most common mistake is filling in the application form without first gathering the relevant documents and having them to hand. In that case, your answers are based not on documents but on your own impression, which leads to inconsistencies in your application and, in most cases, to a visa refusal. What we suggest is to gather your documents first and only then complete the online application.

As for the documents, they vary and depend on each applicant’s financial and personal situation. People who are employed, for example, need to provide the relevant employment documents and bank records of their income in line with their employment and legal payments (that is, a salary paid into a bank account). Those registered as self-employed need to provide the relevant documents too, and so on. Nowadays, income can come from different sources, for example rent, sales, online activity and so on. That is why it is very important for the source of your income to be as clear and verifiable as possible, which means money that has passed through the bank.
