Schengen visa for Filipino citizens: a practical guide

Filipino citizens need a Schengen visa if they want to travel to countries in the Schengen area for short visits, for tourism or business meetings. With this visa, they can travel freely as long as they respect the Schengen rule on length of stay: up to 90 days within any 180-day period. Given the high number of enquiries, we invite you to read these practical guidelines for a successful application.

Where should you apply for the visa?

You apply for a Schengen visa at the diplomatic mission of the country you wish to travel to. For example, if you are travelling to Italy, the appointment and submission of documents must take place at the Italian Embassy. If you will visit several Schengen countries during your trip, the application must be made at the consular office of the first country of entry. So, if you will travel to Italy first and then to France, the application must be made at the Italian consulate.

Types of visa and their duration.

You can apply for a single-entry or multiple-entry Schengen visa, depending on your needs. In general, the validity of the visa matches your travel plans (15 days, 1 month). If you travel regularly, you can apply for a longer-term multiple-entry visa.

What documents do you need?

Each country has its own rules, but the standard documents are:

  1. Application form
  2. Passport valid for at least 3 months after your return date
  3. Photo
  4. Travel itinerary (hotel booking, tickets)
  5. Health insurance for the period of travel
  6. Proof of financial means (employment contract, statements for the bank account your salary is paid into)
  7. A copy of your residence permit for Albania, valid for at least 3 months
  8. Other specific documents, depending on the requirements of the host country

When should I apply and how long does the process take?

In most cases, the application takes 15 working days to process, except in particular cases that require more time. We recommend applying at least 4 weeks in advance to avoid further delays (for example, while waiting for an interview date at the relevant consulate).
